HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A couple of crashes closed lanes on both sides of Interstate 84 Monday morning.
The the most impactful crash involved an overturned vehicle that closed two lanes on I-84 eastbound. The road completely reopened just before 8:40 a.m.
That crash, which involved a tractor trailer, occurred between exits 50 and 51.
It was first reported around 5:08 a.m. As of 8 a.m., more than 4.4 miles of backup was reported.
The tractor-trailer flipped over on its side with its back door wide open, a Channel 3 crew on the scene reported.
Cargo from the trailer was scattered across the roadway.
State police said the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called, along with the Hartford Fire Department, to help with a fuel spill
The left and center lanes were closed.
Four lanes had been closed at one point.
Heavy delays were reported in the area due to the lane closures.
Drivers were advised to find alternate routes as the incident is expected to add several minutes to morning commutes.
Traffic was backed up well into West Hartford.
However, emergency crews have since cleared the scene and traffic is flowing.
Around 6:45 a.m., a two-vehicle crash closed lanes on the westbound side of the highway.
The left and center lanes were closed between exits 47 and 46.
The scene of that crash has since cleared.
No injuries were reported in either crash, state police said.
Causes for both have yet to be determined.
