AfD MP Moosdorf is said to have greeted a party friend in the Bundestag with a swing of the heel and a “Hitler salute”. He is being prosecuted for this. Moosdorf denies the allegations. He's had more trouble lately.
The Berlin public prosecutor's office has brought charges against AfD member of the Bundestag Matthias Moosdorf. On June 22, 2023, the 60-year-old is said to have publicly greeted a party friend with a heel swing and the “Hitler salute” in the cloakroom area of the Reichstag building during an ongoing Bundestag session, as the public prosecutor's office announced.
The accused is said to have been aware that the NSDAP greeting would have been noticeable to others in the entrance area. Moosdorf is accused of using unconstitutional license plates.
Immunity lifted in October
Parliament lifted the 60-year-old's immunity in October. He denies the allegations. “The accusation is bizarre and nothing is more absurd than this accusation,” said Moosdorf when asked.
Moosdorf has recently also had trouble within the faction. In mid-September, the former foreign policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group was obliged to pay an internal party fine of 2,000 euros after an unauthorized trip to Russia.
The AfD politician, who was born in Leipzig in 1965, has been a direct candidate in the Bundestag since 2021. In October 2024 it became known that the musician was an honorary professor at a Moscow music college.
