We have a snowy night ahead, with 2-4 inches for most. Plan on slick and slow travel conditions tonight into early Tuesday morning.
INDIANAPOLIS — Based on upstream radar trends, snow is arriving in the metro area a couple of hours earlier than anticipated (around 5 p.m.). It will be a broad 2-4 inches for most of central Indiana between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m., with locally higher totals in any bands that develop.
INDOT cameras along I-70 in Terre Haute show snow has already crossed the Illinois/Indiana border.

This system arrives in western-northwestern Indiana around 4 p.m. and into the metro area around 5 p.m. Some roads may become slick during that time and snow will continue to expand over the state the remainder of the evening.

Timeline: What to expect
Now-5 p.m.:
Snow expands from western Indiana to the metro area.
5-8 p.m. (Indy metro):
Snow becomes likely with some roads becoming slick.
9 p.m.–4 a.m. (heaviest window):
This is when the Indy metro area will experience the steadiest and heaviest snow rates.
Between 4 a.m.-6 a.m. Tuesday:
Snowfall tapers off, but the temperature drop into the teens and lower 20s will keep roads slick and icy.

How much snow?
Most of Indiana should pick up at least 2-4 inches of snow.
Some areas could see 4+ inches where narrower, heavier snow bands develop.
At this time, we do not know exactly where those heavier bands will set up.
Regardless of where totals fall, the combination of overnight snow, cold pavement and frigid morning temperatures means slick and slow travel late tonight and during the Tuesday morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect the entire state from 7 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Plan for disruptions to Tuesday morning routines, including the likelihood of numerous school delays or schedule changes. If you need child care contingencies, now is the time to prepare.
Cold week ahead
The cold doesn’t leave after this system. Temperatures will run 10°–20° below average through the week. Expect:
