SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane is preparing for dangerous wind conditions as the National Weather Service forecasts strong winds with gusts of 50 to 70 mph beginning between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The forecast brings the potential for widespread power outages, tree damage, and difficult driving conditions. City officials are mobilizing first responders, Spokane 311 operators, and Street and Parks crews to respond to damage reports.
“The City of Spokane is prepared and ready to respond to potential damage across our community, but we urge everyone to take proper precautions. Secure loose items, stay aware of changing conditions, and prioritize safety for yourself and those around you,” Mayor Lisa Brown said.
The city has activated its inclement weather plan, including additional surge capacity at local shelters for people experiencing homelessness. Bed availability can be found at sheltermespokane.org.
Reporting Damage
Residents should call 3-1-1 to report trees blocking roadways or downed trees in city parks. For trees entangled with power lines, call Avista. Power outages can be reported at myAvista.com/outage. If downed power lines create an emergency, call 9-1-1.
Intersections without power should be treated as four-way stops.
After winds subside, city crews will prioritize opening blocked arterial roads, then residential streets, followed by general debris removal. Residents can take yard debris to the Waste to Energy facility at 2900 S. Geiger Blvd. after the storm.
Garbage and recycling service may be delayed depending on storm impact.
