Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall is expected to make a decision on his coaching future this weekend, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Sumrall is reportedly down to staying at Tulane or taking a gig at a place such as Florida or Auburn. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed Florida turned its attention towards Sumrall.

“Sources: Tulane coach Jon Sumrall is expected to make a decision on his coaching future on Sunday morning,” Thamel wrote on Twitter/X. “He’s expected to choose between staying at Tulane, and his outside opportunities have included significant interest from Florida and Auburn.

“There’s also potential ripples from Lane Kiffin’s decision for Sumrall, as either LSU will remain open or Ole Miss will become open on Saturday. Tulane is No. 24 in the College Football Playoff and closes the season at home against Charlotte on Saturday night.”

As Thamel pointed out, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin’s decision will certainly make things interesting. If the Rebels gig opens up or LSU remains open, Sumrall might command interest from one of those schools.

As it stands right now, Tulane is No. 24 in the College Football Playoff rankings, the highest ranking for a G5 school this season. The Green Wave would be the current rep in the CFP coming outside of the Power Four.

Sumrall is 18-7 at Tulane after going 23-4 at Troy in 2022 and ’23. Sporting a 41-11 overall record, Sumrall is one of the hottest names in the coaching carousel.

Interestingly enough, Sumrall has SEC experience under his belt. He coached at Kentucky as a GA (2005-06), at Ole Miss as a linebackers coach (2018) and back to Kentucky as the inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator (2019-21).
