A classic meeting between the Nevada Wolf Pack and the Boise State Broncos is set to take place in Reno at Mackay Stadium on Friday night.
The Wolf Pack have gained much notoriety from Bronco Nation after Nevada, led by Colin Kaepernick at the time, upset Boise State and Kellen Moore in 2010 and ruined the Broncos’ chances at a BCS bowl in an overtime stunner.
In 2025 however, Nevada is a shadow of its former glory, currently sitting with a 1-6 record with its only win of the season coming against an FCS team. The matchup is set for an undefeated in-conference Boise State team and a winless in-conference Nevada team.
Despite the game being in Reno, where the Broncos have a 14-11 record, Boise State is expected to win by at least three touchdowns, according to betting odds. Since 2000, Boise State has a 17-2 record against Nevada with one loss in Reno and one loss in Boise.
Last week, the Wolf Pack came up short to the New Mexico Lobos in a 24-22 game that went down to the wire. Nevada scored a season-high 22 points, coming off of two rushing touchdowns by Caleb Ramseur and three field goals made by Joe McFadden with the longest coming from 41 yards.
Their freshman quarterback, Carter Jones, had a season and career-high game, completing 23 of 29 passes for 202 yards and only taking one sack. Jones took the starting job from Brock Purdy’s brother Chubba Purdy. The game against New Mexico was the first of the season for Nevada to not have a turnover. The game was close until the end, with the Wolf Pack failing to stop a late fourth and seven by the Lobos that gave New Mexico the ball back to ice the game.
Boise State handled an at-the-time undefeated UNLV in one of its biggest wins of the season with a final score of 56-31. The Broncos have beat the Rebels four times in the last two years and now continue a streak of 10 consecutive victories against UNLV.
The Broncos put up 562 yards of total offense against UNLV with 294 rushing yards and 264 passing yards. Boise State took an early 14-point lead and the game came relatively close before halftime, entering with a score of 28-24.
Boise State was explosive in the second half, tallying on an unanswered 28 points in the third and fourth quarter. One of the second half touchdowns came off of A’Marion McCoy‘s second pick-six of the season.
Dylan “Jet” Riley had a breakout game against the UNLV Rebels. Riley ran for 201 yards on 15 carries (13.4 yards per carry) to help solidify a Boise State win, with the longest being a 65-yard breakout run.
For the impressive performance, Riley was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. Against conference opponents so far this season, Riley is averaging 9.1 rushing yards every time he touches the ball.
After taking down UNLV, who was at the top last week, the Broncos have cemented their spot at the top of the Mountain West Conference. Boise State has been dominant in its goodbye tour of the Mountain West; The Broncos have not lost a game to a Mountain West foe since November 4, 2023, when they lost to Fresno State, counting 15 straight conference wins.
Their opponent this week, Nevada, has seen the opposite with their last conference win coming against the New Mexico Lobos in October 28, 2023. Nevada has lost 14 straight conference games.
